My Motivations

In one word - lunacy! Seriously, ever since I was a little kid, I have always been fascinated by history. To me, these were nice, fascinating stories about people and places which also happened to be true. I used to have this urge to map out the entire history of the world, but I quickly realized that this is not very doable. Sure, I could have a superficial knowledge about every little culture, but it is much more interesting to study a culture in-depth and see what makes its people tick. I believe a good way of accomplishing this is to study their history. The question is: whose history?

I would like to study the history of a culture that has a very long and rich tradition, yet fairly isolated from most other cultures. The reason for this is I don't want to worry about studying the interrelations of the different cultures and track the development of each. As a result of this and also because of my heritage, I have embarked on the study of the History of China!
